Summer School Villa Verbeelding 2023 (VOLZET)
NL - Hoe vertel je met beelden een sterk verhaal? Tijdens de Summer School Villa Verbeelding verken je de relatie tussen woord en beeld. Je gaat op zoek naar je eigen stem als illustrator. Onder intensieve begeleiding van topillustratoren experimenteer je vier dagen met technieken, materialen en verhalen.
EN - Experimenting with techniques, materials and stories. Discovering or further developing your own style. All this is possible during the Summer School Villa Verbeelding: 4 days of drawing intensively under the guidance of top illustrators. They share their passion and experience, show concrete examples from their own work and help you refine your technique.

Voor deelnemers die kiezen voor Kaatje Vermeire vragen we een extra kost van € 15 voor de materialen (drukinkt, drukpapier, etsnaalden, …).
Aantal deelnemers: maximum 22 deelnemers per groep
Extra activiteiten:
- Op woensdag 23 augustus (17u-18u30) kan je de pop-upexpo De Verbeelders in het Refugiehuis bezoeken met werk van Ingrid Godon, Tim Van den Abeele en Guido Van Genechten.
- Op donderdag 24 augustus (18u-20u) plannen we een bezoek aan Villa Verbeelding met de nieuwe expo over de zee, De ABC kamer en De Illustratiekamer. In deze laatste vaste expo ontdek je de mini-ateliers van Carll en Kaatje. Reuzegrote illustraties van deze illustratoren vind je in De Illustratieroute. In De ABC kamer ontdek je een letter van Rébecca.
- Op vrijdag 25 augustus sluiten we af met een receptie vanaf 17u15.
- Op zaterdag 26 augustus vindt het festival De Verbeelders in CCHA (Hasselt) plaats. Dit festival staat volledig in het teken van illustratie. Info en tickets vind je hier.

Hoe geraak je er?
PXL-MAD School of Arts: Aan het station kan je verschillende bussen nemen naar PXL-MAD School of Arts (halte Elfde Liniestraat). Als je met de auto komt, kan je parkeren op Parking Kumpen (zie plannetje). We verwachten je bij gebouw C.
Lunch
Neem zelf een lunchpakket mee of ontdek de binnenstad. Dicht bij PXL-MAD School of Arts vind je Bermudas Beach Bar, naast het zwembad Kapermolen. In de buurt vind je ook een Albert Heijn.
Overnachten
Hostel H (Spoorwegstraat 80, 3500 Hasselt) reserveert kamers voor deelnemers. Je krijgt ledenkorting (10%) als je je bevestiging van inschrijving toont. De hostel is een jeugdherberg, dus breng zelf handdoeken en zeep mee.
Annulatievoorwaarden
Door in te schrijven ga je akkoord met de annulatievoorwaarden:
- Als je niet langer kan deelnemen, contacteer altijd eerst Villa Verbeelding via reserveren@villaverbeelding.be. Wij contacteren de volgende persoon op de wachtlijst.
- Bij elke annulatie rekenen we € 70 administratiekosten aan. Als we via de wachtlijst een vervanger vinden, storten we jou de rest van het inschrijvingsgeld terug. Als we geen vervanger vinden, verwittigen we jou en mag je zelf een vervanger zoeken die ons zo snel mogelijk contacteert.
- Bij annulaties minder dan 1 maand vooraf is terugbetaling niet meer mogelijk.
Villa Verbeelding heeft het recht om de workshop te annuleren bij te weinig inschrijvingen of in geval van overmacht (bv. ziekte van de lesgever). In dat geval krijgen de deelnemers hun inschrijvingsgeld volledig terug.
Georganiseerd door Villa Verbeelding in samenwerking met PXL-MAD School of Arts. Villa Verbeelding is het witte herenhuis in de Bampslaan bij het station in Hasselt. Er zijn vaste en tijdelijke tentoonstellingen over illustratie, lezingen, workshops (voor kinderen en volwassenen). Je kan een bezoek aan De Illustratiekamer combineren met De Illustratieroute in de Hasseltse binnenstad. PXL-MAD School of Arts is gevestigd op de campus Elfde Linie in Hasselt, vlakbij het Hasseltse stadscentrum en Quartier Canal.

For participants who choose Kaatje Vermeire we ask an additional cost of 15 euros for extra materials.

Extra activities:
- On Wednesday 23th of August (5-6:30 PM) you can visit the pop-upexpo De Verbeelders with work of Ingrid Godon, Tim Van den Abeele en Guido Van Genechten.
- On Thursday 24th of August (6-8 PM) we visit at Villa Verbeelding for the exhibition revolving the sea, De ABC kamer and De Illustratiekamer. In this last exhibition you can discover the workspace of Carll en Kaatje. In De ABC kamer you'll discover a letter from Rébecca.
- On Friday 25th of August you are invited to the closing reception at 5:15 PM.
- Following the Summer School Villa Verbeelding the festival De Verbeelders takes place. On Saturday 26th of August the festival day in Hasselt will focus on illustration. More info and tickets: click here.

Transport and parking
PXL-MAD School of Arts: At the station you can take severel buses to PXL-MAD School of Arts (stop Elfde Liniestraat). If you come by car, you can park at Parking Kumpen (see plan below). We expect you in building C.
Where to eat?
Bring your own lunch or explore the city! Close to PXL-MAD School of Arts, you can have lunch at Bermudas Beach Bar, next to the swimming pool Kapermolen. You'll find supermarkt Albert Heijn close to PXL-MAD.
Where to sleep?
Hostel H (Spoorwegstraat 80, 3500 Hasselt) reserves rooms for participants during a limited period. You'll get a discount (10%) with your registration certificate. Make sure you bring your own towels and products.
Cancellation policy
There are limited spaces available for this Summer School. Therefore, we would like to ensure the participation of the applicants. By registering you agree with the cancellation policy:
- If your payment and registration have been completed but you can no longer participate, always contact Villa Verbeelding first via reserveren@villaverbeelding.be. We will contact the next person on the waiting list.
- For every cancellation, we will charge an administration cost of € 70. If we can find someone to replace you via the waiting list, we will repay the rest of the registration fee. In case there is no other participant available, we will notify you that you can look for someone to replace you yourself. We kindly ask that this person contacts us as soon as possible to take care of the registration.
- In case of cancellation less than 1 month before the start of the Summer School, restitution is no longer possible. Participants pay the full registration fee, also in case of a no-show without notification or when leaving the Summer School early.
- Villa Verbeelding has the right to cancel the Summer School in case of insufficient subscriptions or unforeseen circumstances (e.g. sickness of a mentor). In that case participants will get a full refund of the subscription fee.
