Bio
Manuel Marsol (1984, Madrid - ES) werkte eerst in de reclamewereld vooral hij koos voor zijn echte passie: tekenen. Nu maakt hij prentenboeken samen met schrijver Carmen Chica. Voor het boek De berg ontving hij een award op de Kinderboekenbeurs van Bologna. Achab en de witte walvis verscheen onlangs bij uitgeverij Boycott.

Wat kon je verwachten?
Manuel Marsol: "The art experience (that kind of revelation so difficult to explain) comes to us in the most diverse forms. In the form of a painting, a song, a film or a poem, but also - surprise - in the form of a picture book. Yes, those books that people sometimes call stories "decorated with drawings", that "serve to learn something practical", with "very few words" and "just for children'.
Because we must recognize that the picture book can be just that, but it can also be much more: something rich, beautiful and poetic, a small universe of aesthetic and literary delight. A few other media (so free, experimental and full possibilities) can combine word and image with greater grace.
In this workshop, we'll see some examples of the art of the picture book, and we will do small drawing exercises, explore their relationship with the text and with the page layout, just like the picture book makers."
