Summer School Villa Verbeelding 2024
Experimenting with techniques, materials and stories. Discovering or developing your own style. All this is possible during the Summer School Villa Verbeelding: 4 days of intens drawing intensively under the guidance of top illustrators. They share their passion and experience, show concrete examples from their own work and help you refine your technique.

1. Visit Villa Verbeelding
The temporary exhibition Dromen van kleur, De ABC kamer and De IIllustratiekamer. In this last permanent exhibition you will discover the mini-studios of Carll Cneut, Kaatje Vermeire and Sebastiaan Van Doninck. You can find huge illustrations by these illustrators in De Illustratieroute. In De ABC kamer you will discover a letter by Rébecca Dautremer and Isabelle Vandenabeele. Buy books of your favorite illustrators in the museum shop.

2. Visit exhibiton Paddy Donnelly
Visit the exhibition of Paddy Donnelly (in presence of the illustrator) in Bibliotheek Hasselt Limburg.
- Summer School 1: Thursday 22nd of August, 5:30 - 6:30 PM
- Summer School 2: Wednesday 28th of August, 5:30 - 6:30 PM
3. Closing reception
- Summer School 1: Friday 23rd of August, from 5:00 PM
- Summer School 2: Thursday 29th of August, from 5:00 PM
4. Illustration Festival De Verbeelders
De Verbeelders festival will take place in CCHA (Hasselt) on Saturday, 24th of August. This festival is entirely dedicated to illustration. Information and tickets will soon be available on our website. Tip! From the 8th of August till 8th of September there will also be the free exhibition Veel (maar niet alles) van Gerda Dendooven in CCHA.

Transport and parking
PXL-MAD School of Arts (Building C, Elfde Liniestraat 25): At the station you can take several buses to PXL-MAD School of Arts (stop Elfde Liniestraat). If you come by car, you can park at Parking Kumpen (see plan below). We expect you in building C. On the first day doors are open from 8:30 AM.
Where to eat?
Bring your own lunch or explore the city! Close to PXL-MAD School of Arts, you can have lunch at Bermudas Beach Bar, next to the swimming pool Kapermolen. You'll find supermarket Albert Heijn close to PXL-MAD.
Where to sleep?
Your stay in Hasselt you have to book yourself. There are many nice options in Hasselt. You will receive a 10% discount at the following places if you mention that you are participating in the Summer School: Hostel H (Spoorwegstraat 80, 3500 Hasselt) and Hotel Hemelhuys (Hemelrijk 15, 3500 Hasselt). The hostel is a youth hostel, so bring your own towels and soap.
Cancellation policy
There are limited spaces available for this Summer School. Therefore, we would like to ensure the participation of the applicants. By registering you agree with the cancellation policy:
- If your payment and registration have been completed but you can no longer participate, always contact Villa Verbeelding first via reserveren@villaverbeelding.be. We will contact the next person on the waiting list.
- For every cancellation, we will charge an administration cost of € 70. If we can find someone to replace you via the waiting list, we will repay the rest of the registration fee. In case there is no other participant available, we will notify you that you can look for someone to replace you yourself. We kindly ask that this person contacts us as soon as possible to take care of the registration.
- In case of cancellation less than 1 month before the start of the Summer School, restitution is no longer possible. Participants pay the full registration fee, also in case of a no-show without notification or when leaving the Summer School early.
- Villa Verbeelding has the right to cancel the Summer School in case of insufficient subscriptions or unforeseen circumstances (e.g. illness of a mentor). In that case participants will get a full refund of the subscription fee.
